Intelligence is considered an abstract concept, which is why experts have been immersed in countless debates about this topic.

In general, it is defined as the ability to choose the best option in a situation. Intelligence tests are popular for creating scenarios that allow for correct decision making.

Before you take this free IQ test online, let me ask you one question. Are you interested in learning more about this type of test? Let’s find out.

Types of IQ TESTS

First of all, let’s talk a little bit about the types of intelligence. Despite the fact that there are various theories on this subject, the most widespread is that of the multiple intelligences of the psychologist and professor at Harvard University, Howard Gardner.

This model identifies 12 types of intelligence:

  • linguistic-verbal,
  • logical-mathematical,
  • spatial-visual,
  • musical,
  • bodily-kinesthetic,
  • intrapersonal (knowing oneself),
  • interpersonal (relating to others),
  • emotional,
  • naturalistic,
  • existential,
  • creative,
  • collaborative.

What is an IQ test?

The intelligence tests or IQ tests (intellectual coefficient test) are tests that specialize in measuring various determinants of IQ. Among them, the ability to reason with appropriate logic, the ability to learn and process new information, as well as the effectiveness in making decisions and abstract thinking.

Types of IQ tests

The first IQ test, called the Binet-Simon test, was developed by French psychologists Alfred Binet and Théodore Simon. The purpose of the test was to determine the intelligence of those people whose intellectual deficit was notoriously higher than that of the majority of the population.

Nowadays there are various ways of classifying IQ tests, the best known being:

  • Test of acquired knowledge
  • Test focused on a type of intelligence (verbal, mathematical, spatial or musical)
  • Individual tests (Binet-Simon Test, WAIS Test, WISC Test, Raven Test)
  • Group test (Otis-Lennon Test of School Ability, Test of Cognitive Skills)

What is the average IQ score?

The result of the intelligence tests is known as the IQ. In the Binet-Simon test, this was calculated by dividing the person’s mental age by their chronological age and multiplying that result by 100.

This method is not used in current tests. Nowadays, to calculate the IQ, a statistical comparison is made with respect to a sample population and, from the result, it is determined whether you are in the average, are gifted or have a deficiency.

According to the above, the ranges would be as follow:

  • If you get 70-79, it means that you have a deficiency.
  • If the result is 80-89, your intelligence is lower than the average.
  • If you get 90-110, your IQ is average.
  • If the result is 111-120, your intelligence is higher than average.
  • If it is 121-130, you are considered gifted.
  • And if it is greater than 130, you are considered extremely gifted.
